10 Ways to Jazz Up Your Yard Without Spending a Fortune
Lifestyle| | By Lauren Boudreau
Few yards are perfect, but many are almost perfect. Sometimes it just takes the right yard furniture or plants to pull a look together.
If you’re wondering how you can spruce up your almost-perfect yard, consider these easy, non-expensive ideas.
So vintage. So fun. Hanging string lights can turn any backyard from drab to fab. You even take it a step further by making your own lights out of common items and putting your own touch on them. You can string them from tree to tree, or hang them on a porch railing to create ambiance.
If you’ve got a small backyard, adding mirrors can make it appear double the size. We’re not saying to turn your yard into a fun house, but adding a few here and there will give it depth. Replace any old windows you may not use, like one in a shack, with a mirror and watch your yard expand.
Add a Pergola
Pergolas are beautiful and can create a focal point or entryway for your yard. You could always buy one, or use this tutorial to make one yourself.
Build a Walkway
A small, cute walkway is the perfect way to bring character to your yard. It can be super easy to do by putting some wood pallets or stone to create a path. You can follow this tutorial.
Tire Swing Planter
Finding use out of everyday items will always make your yard look good. In this case, re-purpose an old tire swing to a plant potter. You can also spray paint it for a pop of color. Check out how to make one here.
Color a Picnic Table
This one is similar to the tire, except the pop of color is the whole point. Paint the table top, seats, and support beams any colors you like. If you don’t have a picnic table, you can always take any regular white plastic chairs and paint those instead.
Unusual planters are all the rage. Use this tutorial for a step-by-step guide or you can purchase one. Ladder planters look elegant and rustic at the same time.
You can make a bench out of anything – wooden palettes, cinder blocks, or planks of wood. This bench idea is awesome because it’s so easy to do. Just layer cinder blocks and put wood beams through them. Add a cushion for a comfy seating area. Follow this tutorial.
Tin Can Lights
This is another DIY lighting option anyone can do. Paint the tin cans any color or colors you desire and drill holes through them to make a shape or design. Insert a tea light and voila!
We’re not talking those gaudy things you see at car dealerships, but cute, pretty flags to spruce the place up. You can also add curtains to make the place feel more homey. Check out how to make some here.
