The ‘Big’ Piano Makes Its Return in Macy’s

It’s one of the most famous scenes in movie history. In the movie Big, Tom Hanks and Robert Loggia jump on a huge, 16-foot piano on the floor of the now-closed FAO Schwartz toy store in New York City. For years afterward, the piano was an immensely popular tourist attraction for kids and adults alike. Unfortunately, FAO Schwartz closed last July and the piano finally played its last tune.

On Friday, Macy’s revealed they had bought the famed piano and installed it (with some minor upgrades) at its equally famous location on 34th Street in midtown Manhattan. “It’s a part of New York history. We feel proud and lucky to have it,” said Amy Kule, head of annual events and entertainment marketing at Macy’s, to the New York Daily News. “We’ve always believed in retail as entertainment,” added Kule. The piano is located on the store’s lower level and is free to use. You (yes, you adults) have permission to have fun again. “Everybody likes being a kid again,” said Wesley Whatley, creative director of Macy’s parade and entertainment group.
