Caitlyn Jenner Celebrates Anniversary of ‘Vanity Fair’ Reveal
Caitlyn Jenner had the “best year of my life” after revealing her true identity on the cover of Vanity Fair last June. The former Olympian-turned-reality TV star went public with her transition in a candid interview with Diane Sawyer, and subsequently made her debut as a woman on the cover of the publication on June 1, with a headline reading, “Call me Caitlyn.”
The issue has since become one of Vanity Fair’s most famous covers of all time, and to celebrate the first anniversary of her reveal, Jenner took to Instagram to celebrate the momentous occasion. “One year since Vanity Fair came out,” Jenner says in the video while holding the magazine. “I can’t believe it, it’s been one year. What a year. Nothing like living your life authentically, it’s been so much fun.”
She added the caption, “Can’t believe it’s been one year since the @vanityfair cover. So happy, best year of my life #happyfirstbirthday #callmecait #learningtolive.” The anniversary comes the same day that bosses at Sports Illustrated announced they will be honoring another milestone of the star’s – the 40th anniversary of her gold medal win in the decathlon at the 1976 Olympic Games. The magazine’s Olympics issue featured Jenner, then Bruce, crossing the finish line in victory and solidifying the win. On June 6, a film about Jenner’s Olympic journey will be released and on June 8, she will grace the cover of Sports Illustrated yet again for a new cover story. “We are excited to bring a fresh perspective to one of the greatest athletic performances of all time,” Paul Fichtenbaum, Sports Illustrated group editor, said in a statement. “Obviously, so much has transpired since the ’76 Olympic Games. She spoke openly about the legacy of winning the gold medal and its impact on her journey as a transgender woman in the public eye.”
