Summer not only brings out the nice weather, but also brings out the mosquitoes. There’s nothing worse than getting eaten alive when you’re trying to enjoy the summer sun.
Once bitten, you’re tortured with itching and you end up with redness all over your skin. Although there are some over-the-counter remedies for mosquitoes bites, these are some homemade remedies that will ease your pain!
Hot Water or Hot Spoon
Do you know what really happens once you are bitten by a mosquito? It may gross you out, but mosquitoes inject proteins into your skin which causes an itchy allergic reaction. Although it doesn’t sound ideal, these allergic reactions cannot survive heat so it’s best to press a hot substance on the bite. Warming a metal spoon and pressing it against the bite can help destroy the protein and the itch along with it.
Similar to heat, cold temperatures can help treat your irritated skin from mosquitoes bites. Constricting blood vessels, the cold prevents any bacteria or venom from spreading through your body. Pressing cold onto the bite also reduces the itching sensation and the redness of your skin.
Lemon or Lime Slices
You may be surprised to find out that fruits can help reduce the irritation caused by mosquitoes bites. Their citric acid relieves the itching. Don’t have any lemon or lime slices? Lemon juice and apple cider vinegar are good substitutes.
If you peel a banana, cut off a piece of the skin, and rub on your bite to help stop the itching.
Slice of Onion
You probably didn’t know that onions contain an enzyme which is so powerful that it can relieve the irritation you have from the mosquito’s bites.
Baking Soda Paste
With a few drops of warm water and baking soda, lightly apply the paste on the bite and let it sit for about 15 minutes before washing it off.
It may be surprising that something as basic as toothpaste can remedy your mosquito bites, but it helps a lot! The anti-inflammatory properties of the oil in toothpaste help with the irritation and itching sensation.
Medicine Itch Relievers
Common medicines you have laying around such as Vicks VapoRub, Orajel, and Tums (crush and add water) will reduce the swelling of the bite.
