Johnny Depp’s Lawyer Wants Amber Heard to Detail Alleged Abuse Under Oath
Johnny Depp’s lawyer wants the star’s estranged wife Amber Heard to testify at next week’s court hearing after failing to secure the actress for a deposition. The Danish Girl beauty filed to end the couple’s 15-month marriage on May 23, and then obtained a domestic violence restraining order against Depp, following allegations of abuse.
The two sides are due to meet in a Los Angeles court on June 17, and in new papers filed by Depp’s attorney Laura Wasser, she reveals the exes’ representatives had been due to begin settlement talks on Friday to try to hash out an agreement to avoid the case going to trial. The meeting fell through, and Wasser had instead hoped to use the time to quiz Heard under oath for her deposition, but the actress suddenly became unavailable and claimed she had no time to sit for questioning before next Friday’s restraining order trial, reports TMZ. Now the legal eagle is asking a judge to compel the 30-year-old to take the stand to give evidence in court. Taking aim at Heard and her legal officials for publicizing her side of the story with multiple statements since the restraining order news hit headlines, Wasser wrote, “(Amber) has tried her claims in the media. It is now time to do so in a court of law.” Heard claimed Depp assaulted her at her birthday party on April 21 and then disappeared for a month. The couple allegedly fought on his return on May 21, and Heard claims her husband threw an iPhone at her face, causing the bruising she showed off as she attended court for the protective order last month. At the time, Wasser blasted the assault accusations, stating, “Amber is attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse.” The actress is seeking $50,000 a month in spousal support, a request Depp is seeking to have denied.
