‘Make America Love Again’ Video Highlights Differences Between Trump and Sanders Supporters

A viral video has taken the Internet by storm in its depiction of how supporters of two presidential candidates receive a man offering them free hugs.
The Free Hugs Project, created by Ken E Nwadike Jr., was formed in 2013 to “spread love, inspire change, and raise awareness of social issues,” according to the project’s Facebook page. Nwadike’s videos first gained public recognition after a video went viral in which he chronicles himself giving out hugs a year after the Boston Marathon bombing.
Recently, Nwadike attended campaign rallies for both Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders to give out free hugs, promote positivity and ease tensions. He caught it all on video using the hashtag #MakeAmericaLoveAgain, a riff on Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan. The video, which now has over 16 million views as of press time and more than 500,000 likes and shares, reveals a stark contrast between the supporters for each candidate.
The video first shows Nwadike at a Trump rally, where supporters made it clear he was not welcome.
In the first scene, police accompany a 15-year-old girl after she was sprayed by a Trump supporter in the face with pepper spray. Nwadike is then seen trying to make peace, but some Trump supporters dismissed Nwadike, saying things like “I don’t want any drugs,” “white is better,” and “I will punch you if you are not [for Trump].”
But when Nwadike attended a rally for Bernie Sanders, the reaction was very different. Supporters happily hugged the man. He received passionate bear hugs and many smiling group hugs, even from the police monitoring the event. The video ends with supporters passing hugs along to one another.
Of course, the video has received both positive reacti0ns and some comments of outrage.
While many people are touched by the compassion and acceptance of the Bernie supporters, one viewer scoffed at the Free Hugs Project, saying that “Free hugs [are] the only thing these idiots are going to get for free… sorry [about] these false promises Bernie is giving them.”
