Meet Scooter: The World’s Oldest Living Cat
News| | By Lauren Boudreau
Scooter was born March 26, 1986, and lives with his owner Gail Floyd in Mansfield, Texas. The 30-year-old still loves to do the things he enjoyed as a kitten, like riding on Floyd’s shoulder, waking her up at 6 a.m., and playing with her hair. Floyd told Guinness World Records that she believes keeping him active is the key to his longevity. The cat travels with her everywhere and has been to 45 out of 50 U.S. states. She also takes him with her to visit the nursing home where they live because, “He likes to see new places and he likes people,” she told Guinness. Unlike most cats, Scooter enjoys baths and being blow-dried after they’re done. Floyd also spoils him with his favorite snack – chicken – every other day. Scooter didn’t reach this point without turmoil, however. In 2014, he broke his leg and has been receiving treatments ever since, but his vets say, “Scooter is quite an amazing cat with a strong will to live.” Despite his injuries, it seems Scooter has no plans of slowing down. The oldest cat to live on record is 38-year-old Crème Puff from Austin, Texas, but perhaps Scooter may just steal that title too.
