Mel Gibson is reportedly working on a sequel to his religious epic The Passion of the Christ.

The filmmaker’s 2004 movie, which starred Jim Caviezel as The Messiah, became the highest-grossing independent film of all time, hauling in more than $600 million at the global box office.

And now Randall Wallace, who has worked closely with Gibson on films like Braveheart and his upcoming war movie Hacksaw Ridge, has told The Hollywood Reporter the two pals are planning a follow-up to The Passion of the Christ.

“I always wanted to tell this story,” Randall, who studied religion at university, said. “The Passion is the beginning and there’s a lot more story to tell.”

Gibson himself has yet to comment on the sequel reports.
