Miley Cyrus To Host The VMAs Like A ‘Wrecking Ball’
If Miley Cyrus’ 2013 MTV Video Music Awards performance was any indicator, expect this year’s awards show to be highly memorable.
Monday evening, Miley Cyrus took to her Twitter account to announce that she will be the host for the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards show. The pop star posted a photo of her in a neon green jumpsuit holding a sandwich sign that read, “MTV Won’t Let Me Perform,” which is maybe true after the last time she took the stage, but followed that message up with “So, I’m Hosting This Year’s VMAs.” MTV and Cyrus’ representative both confirmed the news following the announcement. Word quickly spread with Cyrus’ tweet getting over 25,000 retweets and 37,000 “Favorites” on the social media site. Of all the times Cyrus has made headlines, perhaps her biggest splash came two years ago during the 2013 show when the star created controversy for her sexually explicit “twerk” on singer Robin Thicke. The performance drew applause and criticism for all corners of the globe. Cyrus did not perform at last year’s show, but still made headlines when she sent a homeless 22-year-old, aspiring model onstage to accept her award for Video of the Year for her song, “Wrecking Ball.” The publicity stunt was a move to raise awareness and money for homeless youth. This year, she’ll have the stage for roughly three hours. God help us all. The MTV Video Music Awards will air Aug. 30 at 9 p.m. on MTV.
