This Mom Took Her Own Birth Photos to Show the Perspective From the Mother
Birth photos are always emotional and touching, however the perspective from the mother is normally left out. One California-based photographer decided to change that by capturing the birth of her daughter Anora from her own perspective. Lisa Robinson-Ward decided to change up the classic birth photos and capture her own. According to A Plus, Robinson-Ward normally photographs weddings and has never captured a birth before.
“I’ve never shot a birth! I mainly shoot weddings which are pretty structured and planned and there is a lot of pressure to get those shots perfect,” she shared. “For the birth, we just kind of went with it. I was able to have the experience and capture it at the same time.”
After the birth, Robinson-Ward posted the photos on her website giving a glimpse into the birthing process from her eyes. The most challenging part of the shoot came from Robinson-Ward trying to manage the pain and the concentration needed to take the photographs. “I had an epidural and a great anesthesiologist, but I do think that it really helped me to focus more, and, in turn, probably helped manage the pain leading up to it,” Robinson-Ward explained. She continued, “I was so happy that I was finally going to meet my daughter, I had great pain management so I was really just amazed that everything came together enough for me to be able to photograph the birth. I didn’t know if things were coming out well or in focus until afterwards.” Robinson-Ward also managed to get her family involved in the shooting process. Her husband Alec helped before her daughter was born and her mother helped capture the moments following the birth. Robinson-Ward is very happy with how the photos came out. “I’m really happy with the experience. I have these photos to look back on and show Anora when she gets older.” And her favorite photo? The one of her husband seeing their daughter for the first time. “The shot is full of emotion,” shared A Plus. See the full gallery of Anora’s birth on Robinson-Ward website.
