‘Nude Selfies Until I Die!’ Kim Kardashian Accepts Webby Award
Kim Kardashian has vowed never to stop stripping off for selfies. The 35-year-old reality star picked up the first-ever Break the Internet gong at the Webby Awards in New York on Monday night. The mother-of-two looked stunning in a black Vivienne Westwood dress as she arrived at Cipriani Wall Street for the ceremony, which has previously been labeled the Oscars of the Internet.
As she took to the stage to accept her award, Kardashian complied with the organization’s five word acceptance speech limit, choosing to say, “Nude selfies until I die!” to cheers from the audience. Kardashian has courted controversy with several seductive snaps she has posted for fans, with one that she shared in back in March showing her completely naked, with just two black censor strips protecting her modesty. Kardashian was slammed by many, including Bette Midler, Chloe Grace Moretz and Piers Morgan, for the picture, while others praised her for her confidence in sharing the shot. Regardless of the nature of the response, Kardashian’s pictures always garner attention from her followers – of which she has over 70 million on Instagram and 45 million on Twitter. She also has a hugely popular mobile game entitled Kim Kardashian’s Hollywood. Kardashian’s gong was given to her “in recognition of her unprecedented success online and the bold and creative ways she has used the Internet, social media, apps and video to connect with a truly global audience,” Webby organizers stated. Kardashian’s husband Kanye West was also honored at the ceremony, picking up the Artist of the Year award following the release of his new album, The Life of Pablo. Rapper West is famous for his long and rambling acceptance speeches, but he also stuck to the rules as he picked up his gong, choosing “I can’t stand short speeches,” as his five words. Other winners included Jessica Alba, who took home the Entrepreneur of the Year award for her work with The Honest Company, as well as Lena Dunham. She accepted the New Founders of the Year award alongside Girls writer Jenni Konner for their newsletter and the pair chose “Is Drake in the house?” as their five words. Jimmy Fallon had pre-taped his acceptance speech for Best Social Content and Marketing, saying: “Kim, Kourtney, Kylie, Khloe, Kendall.” The main winners at the Webby Awards 2016 are: Kim Kardashian – Break the Internet award Kanye West – Artist of the Year Krysten Ritter – Actress of the Year The Onion – Lifetime Achievement Lena Dunham & Jenni Konner – New Founders of the Year Jessica Alba – Entrepreneur of the Year #BlackLivesMatter founders Opal Tometi and Alicia Garza – Social Movement of the Year Making a Murderer – Film & Video Breakout of the Year Award The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon – Best Social Content and Marketing First Lady Michelle Obama – Two Webbys in the Online Film & Video Category Last Week Tonight with John Oliver – Best Writing in Social Funny or Die – Best Individual Short (Comedy) Tracy Morgan – Best Scripted Branded Entertainment The Weeknd – Best Music Video Tyler Oakley – Best Web Personality Straight Outta Compton – Best Digital Campaign SNL 40 – Best Events and Live Webcast, Online Film & Video: Variety Game of Thrones – Best Overall Social Presence Jimmy Kimmel Live! – Online Film & Video: Viral Vanity Fair – Online Film & Video: Documentary Zoolander Returns to the Runway – Three Webbys, including Best Live Experience in Branded Entertainment The 69th Annual Tony Awards – Best Event in Social YouTube Music Awards – Best Music Video Channel House of Cards – FU 2016 – Best Integrated Campaign
