Actor Patrick Dempsey helped heal his marital strife by taking his family on a cycling-friendly vacation.

The former Grey’s Anatomy star, 50, recently confirmed he and his wife Jillian Fink have reconciled after she filed for divorce in January 2015 after 15 years of marriage.

He, Fink and their three children went on vacation to tropical paradise island St. Barths in February, and Dempsey tells Extra the trip was healing for the whole family. “I need to get on the bike a little more, but yes, definitely,” he said in response to whether they all enjoyed an amazing holiday in the Caribbean. “My kids really love cycling. They really enjoy it.” Dempsey and Fink have been married since July 1999 and throughout their union, cycling has proven to be a good way to address whatever marital problems they’re dealing with at any given time. “Riding has been the best thing for my marriage,” he previously told Bicycling. “My wife is really fit – she drops me all the time – but I get her on the descents. On the bike, we can get a workout and a therapy session. When you’re on a ride, you calm down, you start to breathe, then you start to be clearer about your thought processes and what’s bothering you; it just floats up to the surface.” The Dempsey clan is so committed to cycling, Dempsey even hosts an annual charity event called The Dempsey Challenge, where bicyclists, runners and walkers are invited to participate in a short marathon to raise money for cancer patients as part of his organization, The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing.
