Russell Crowe turned filming on new movie The Nice Guys into one long hangover when the shoot clashed with a major rugby game back home in Australia.

His co-star Ryan Gosling has become a big fan of the Gladiator star since working with him and he admits now he knows why so many of his peers have enjoyed working with the sports-mad actor.

“We were in Atlanta pretending it was summer, but it was winter,” he tells WENN. “It was, like, minus-10 degrees outside, so most of the time we all went home; we didn’t go out.”

“But we did have one big, epic night. Russell was very generous and rented out this bar for the whole crew and cast to watch a game of rugby – his team was playing.”

“We were all hurting (from drinking) for the rest of the film!”

Crowe is a part-owner of the South Sydney Rabbitohs and often hands out club merchandise to castmates and crew members on film sets.
