Susan Sarandon and Sigourney Weaver Win Top Glamour Awards
Susan Sarandon and Sigourney Weaver scored the top prizes at the 2016 Glamour Women of the Year Awards in London on Tuesday. The Thelma & Louise star was presented with the Glamour Inspiration Award, and when she took to the stage at London’s Berkeley Square Gardens, she noted how she is often mistaken for her fellow honoree Weaver, who was awarded the Glamour Icon prize shortly before her.
“I wanna just clarify a few things,” Sarandon said according to the Daily Mail. “Sigourney may have left the stage but we are two different people. I have taken credit for Alien many times and she’s signed autographs for me.” In the rest of her speech, Sarandon told the audience, “I am inspired by women. Nobody multi-tasks like women. We have to stop worrying about being perfect and do the best we can and have fun… In terms of inequality and how much we get paid, remember it’s quality not quantity. Who wants to play all those parts anyway? A lot of guys parts suck.” Weaver told the audience she read the magazine while growing up as a “six foot tall curly haired troll doll” and hoped her win would let young girls know that “if I can make it to be icon of the year, you can.” Actress and Pitch Perfect 2 director Elizabeth Banks won the Filmmaker award, and she admitted she skipped her son’s pre-school graduation to attend the ceremony. In her acceptance speech, she said, “I know that this award is eventually going to remind me of the $289 million Pitch Perfect 2 made and not the fact that I am a terrible mother.” Other winners included Little Mix for Music Act, Reese Witherspoon for Entrepreneur, Gemma Arterton for Theatre Actress, Rose Byrne for Comedy Actress and James Bond star Naomie Harris for Film Actress. In TV, Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner won UK TV actress and Jessica Jones lead Krysten Ritter won the international equivalent. British pop star Jess Glynne was named Next Breakthrough, British presenter Holly Willoughby won the TV Personality prize, and War & Peace actor James Norton scored the Man of the Year title. Comedian Jennifer Saunders was honored with the Outstanding Contribution prize, which she dedicated to “great friend,” comedienne and television writer Victoria Wood, who passed away in April.
