Tom Hardy has been cast as revered British war photographer Don McCullin in a gritty new movie.

The Revenant actor will go behind the lens for the film adapted from McCullin’s autobiography Unreasonable Behavior.

In the tome, the snapper details his journey from a poverty-stricken childhood in wartime London to the front lines as one of the most famous war photojournalists, who risked his life to document the harsh realities of combat zones around the world.

McCullin’s photographs from war-torn countries such as Vietnam, Cambodia, and Uganda earned him acclaim and the title of Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1993, when he became the first-ever photojournalist to be given the honor.

Hardy, who is also producing the project, is currently filming another war-centered movie, Dunkirk, with his The Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan.
