Tracy Morgan Honors Medical Personnel During Comedy Show
Comedian Tracy Morgan grew emotional on Saturday as he performed for the New Jersey medics who saved his life following his tragic car accident. The 30 Rock star sustained severe injuries in a horrific limousine accident in New Jersey in 2014, in a crash which claimed the life of his friend James ‘Jimmy Mack’ McNair.
Morgan spent several days in a coma after the crash, which left him with severe head trauma, a broken leg and ribs, and also rendered him temporarily blind. He was hospitalised at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick and on Saturday, he returned to the town’s State Theatre for a stand-up gig, where he had invited the caregivers who treated him after the collision. “Last night was one of the most special nights of my life,” he told People on Sunday. “To be standing on stage with the people that saved my life in the audience was an overwhelming experience. I will never fully be able to thank the doctors, nurses, first responders and everyone else that got me back on that stage enough.” “These people are heroes and I love them all from the bottom of my heart,” he continued. “The only good thing that happened on that horrible night was that I was close to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital when the accident happened. God Bless them all.” Following the show, Morgan called on the crowd to honor the medical personnel with a standing ovation and also invited the hospital staff backstage to take pictures. “After the sold-out show, Tracy asked for the house lights to be turned on and requested all those who helped save his life to share his standing ovation with him,” a friend told the publication. “It was a very emotional night.” He also donated all of the show’s proceeds to the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
