Tyler Hoechlin has landed the role of Superman in TV series Supergirl.
The former Teen Wolf star will play the Man of Steel, Supergirl’s cousin, in season two of the show, which features Melissa Benoist as the titular superheroine.
His casting comes weeks after the series was moved from CBS to the CW and renewed for a second season.
“(Executive producer) Greg (Berlanti) and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says. “We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”
Hoechlin joins a long line of actors who have played Superman on the big and small screens, including Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh, Dean Cain, Tom Welling, and Henry Cavill.
Superman will fly into the role when the series returns to TV later this year.
Meanwhile, Cavill is set to reprise the role on the big screen alongside Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in The Justice League Part One, which is due to hit theaters next year.
The actor first donned the blue and red suit in 2012’s Man of Steel and followed with 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He is set to appear in both Justice League Films.
Cavill’s casting came after Brandon Routh’s turn as the superhero in 2006’s Superman Returns, which was directed by Bryan Singer.
The new franchise is being directed by Zack Snyder.
