Watch 900 Ducks Eagerly Flock to Work on a Vineyard
900 ducks reporting for duty! On the Vergenoegd Wine Estate in South Africa, over 900 ducks help take care of the daily maintenance on the vineyard. The ducks help keep the vineyard free of pests spending their day eating the snails and slugs that live on the plants. Every morning the ducks are set free and flock to work. Twice a day at 9:45 and 3:30, tourists can watch the ducks hard at work.
The ducks are part of a special breed called Indian Runner ducks.
“They are working ducks who contribute towards our aim to implement more environmentally-friendly farming practices. They also contribute towards the fertilization of the vineyards,” Nicole Arnold, a Wine Estate worker shared with The Telegraph. “We breed them each year. They have been on the Estate for many years and were originally brought in from Asia.” The ducks waste no time getting to work, spiriting to find those pests. Check out the video below to see the ducks hard at work!
