As a Marine serving our country, it’s clear they work hard everyday to help protect our shores and our friends abroad from a range of dangers and threats. So when they come home, it’s only natural they should play hard too.
To celebrate the Marine Corps’ 238th birthday, a troop decided to get a little more creative with the celebration at a formal dinner.
According to the video posted to YouTube, the Third Marine Aircraft Wing Band rewrote some of the words to musician Macklemore’s “Thrift Shop,” and ‘Can’t Hold Us” songs.
What starts out as a regular marching band performance, quickly turns into a huge song and dance performance from dozens of Marines.
From the YouTube post:
“So this is our 3rd year doing these knock-down/drag-out Birthday Ball concerts; first it was ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ then it was ‘Gangnam Style’ and ‘Thunderstruck,’ and now it’s ‘Thrift Shop’ (which we rewrote the lyrics to and called ‘Cash Sales’) and ‘Can’t Hold Us.’ If you’ve ever been in the military I’m sure you know what Cash Sales is so please listen to the lyrics, they’re pretty clever. Col. Eric Fisher did an awesome job rewriting the lyrics and Sgt. Justin Lienemann pitched in a little bit, and Sgt. Josh Lively did a great job putting the whole thing together. Here’s to 238 years of the Marine Corps doing things like no one else. Semper Fidelis!”
These guys are definitely always faithful to throwing one hell of a birthday bash.
